Hollywoodland REdux

Remodel and Addition
Los Angeles, California

The owners of this 1940’s classic in the shadow of the Hollywood sign wanted to remain true to the original character of the home—but to include all the modern amenities of a cook’s kitchen. When the young couple purchased the property in 2007, the kitchen had been recently been redone, but done in such a way that they immediately embarked on demolition.

With usability and improved flow in mind,  opening up the previously unusable sun porch to both the kitchen and the outdoor patio allows for year-round dining, and better interaction between the cooks and guests. A separate prep area flanked by a divided refrigerator and freezer allows for multiple cooks. Custom blended tile (the owner placed the jewel-colored accents by hand), coordinated retro pulls, reproduction icebox handles, and foot-friendly cork flooring allowed for a custom look and feel with budget in mind.
